Simplifying The Traditional Hairpin

We were tasked with creating a piece of jewellery made with the laser cutter
- Unique
- can be made by lasercutter
- hold hair up
- doesn't fall out
Prototype Sketches
While brainstorming, I explored form and shape and was inspired by the idea of a hairpin after my sister couldn't replace the one I gave her from Japan. Realizing this could set me apart, I noticed the design wasn't oversaturated on Etsy or Amazon and developed it further, embracing a 'swooshy' flowy aesthetic.
Digital Construction
I drew this prototype in Solidworks as an initial fix for my first prototype, which was a bit bulky and tended to fall out of my hair.
This was my final prototype I took to the laser cutter, Which was lighter, yet combined the slight hook from my previous prototype that stopped the pin from sliding out. I also added small teardrop shapes to fix to the main piece.
